Onions, Garlic, Leeks, Carrots, Broccoli – Planting for the Fall and Winter Begins in August

Starting to plant a fall and winter garden in the middle of the summer harvesting season is challenging. But if you want to enjoy your own fresh carrots and broccoli during the darkest days of winter, now is the time to start. Master Gardener Food Gardening Specialists will discuss the best and easiest ways to grow garlic, onions, carrots and leeks plus some unusual and delicious greens. Timing and seeding vs starts will be on the agenda as well as fall and winter harvesting vs overwintering for early spring treats. There will be hands-on participation: bring your garden hat and gloves. In the event of heavy rain, indoor space is available. Free. Registration is NOT required. Location: Harvest for the Hungry Garden, 1717 Yulupa Avenue, Santa Rosa (behind the Methodist church; cross street: Hoen). For more information visit www.sonomamastergardeners.org.
